Promoting Your Book

What I wish I knew about Book Promoting

So I wanted to post some of the things I wish I had known before I launched my book. Up and coming author can do many things, especially as an indie writer, to help direct traffic to their work. Let me start by saying some people have negative views on using Amazon as a launching tool for self-publishing authors. I find it easy to navigate and the tools Amazon provides for promotion and analytics is pretty impressive. Remember, you pay nothing unless you make a sell. Also, the print option is amazing as it is the same as the ebook platform. Your payment comes from the purchase. The tools for pricing let you know immediately how much you need to charge in order to cover the print cost and receive royalties. Amazon does the brain work for you! It is pretty great when you are starting out.

Twitter for the win!

So one of the most important things an indie writer can do is get on twitter. I don’t mean use your personal account if you have one. I mean create a new author profile and use it just to link up to other writers, readers, and random people willing to follow you and retweet your stuff. There are so many people on that medium all day and the support they will give you is priceless. It is quick and very easy yet so powerful where promoting your writing is concerned.

Don’t forget Facebook!

Along with Twitter, Facebook will help you gain traffic. You can use your personal account and create a business page that is kept separate from your personal account. Though separate, both are manageable with one login. You will also have access to your personal contact list so that you can send invites to relevant connections and have them join the page.

Every great author must have a website

The final thing I would suggest is a wordpress blog such as this one. It is easy to set up and manage. One can do it with very little understanding and there is a copious amount of themes online to choose from. You can link a sales page, provide readers with a contact method, and keep followers up-to-date on events. Most important is that you can take all three of these mediums Facebook, Twitter, and a blog and connect them. It is a social media powerhouse targeting fans from the various social media outlets with very little work.

Promoting your book yourself! I will help!

The point of all of this is that you can promote your book yourself. You do not have to pay your hard earned money to a marketer when you can do these things yourself. If you still have no clue where to start shoot me a message on my contact page. Or post a comment below and I’ll help! Also, subscribe to my newsletter by inputting your email into the subscription box and I will send you a periodic letter with facts, advice, and updates. If anyone wants me to write a more specific piece on a medium let me know that as well. I will do what I can to provide the information that you need. Don’t give up and keep pushing great things will happen!

  1. Same. I’m still trying to figure all this book promotion stuff out! I want to snap my fingers and have a wonderful team of people who endeavor to make my writing life easy???

    • I wish I had a team! I feel like I spend more time promoting my book than I ever spent writing it! It can be frustrating trying to be patient. I just try to stay focused and balance my time between social media, my website, ad campaigns, and writing my next novel. It is exhausting just thinking about it all lol But I am seeing a payoff. People are reading the book and I am already getting reviews in less than 2 weeks published so it is worth it in the end 🙂 Wishing you all the best!
